Travel & Editorial
Travel photography is simply exhilarating. I love the haphazard nature of ‘finding’ or having to ‘hunt’ for an image in an unfamiliar land or culture. Some require a long wait and some unfold before you in an instant. An honest and real recording of another world – in my mind – beats a contrived (and often noticeably so, in the travel world) ‘set-up-shot’ every time simply down its authenticity and honesty. If it’s a set-up, the honesty and cultural truth is lost and they become a ‘still life’ of sorts.
Learning to see and appreciate the natural scene before you requires skill and practice.
With very few exceptions, I won’t interfere with a scene although in some portrait situations, I feel it is appropriate to ask for a picture, these are natural and largely shot in a documentary manner. The notion of ‘making images’ has its place but It’s amazing what presents itself when attention, anticipation, and patience are used to find situations worth capturing.
